Our Story
Serving Northern Nevada since 1971 — with two shops, ten employees and over 195 years of combined experience.
Driveline Service Inc. was started in Sacramento, California in 1971 as a franchise business. Ken Goodwill and his son Richard Goodwill opened Driveline Service Inc. of Reno in May of 1971 as the first pilot shop of the new franchise. The 1,500-square-foot shop was located on Tachino Street in Reno, Nevada.
Because of rapid growth, in 1986 they built a new 5,000-square-foot facility at 1325 Glendale Avenue in Sparks. In 1989 they added another 3,000-square-foot building as a complete vehicle repair shop at the same address.
In 2001, Tom Hauptman — who had worked at the shop since 1978 — purchased the shop, which is now known as Driveline & Gear Service. In 2005, we opened Driveline & Gear Service of Fallon at 5305 Reno Highway to better serve our customers in central Nevada.
At the time the franchise was dissolved in 1986, there were 112 DLS shops all across the United States. Most shops became independently owned and operated. Today, many of these shops are still open, run by the same people who started them back in the '70s.
